Preview: “Fight or Flight” Audiobook

Hello, folks!

I’ve written a book. Actually, I’ve written a bunch of books; more specifically, I should say, I have written and finished a book, entirely, and seeks its publishing. To this end, I’m going to be launching a crowdfunding venture – mostly to familiarize myself with the platform, but also to underwrite the cost of a further aspect: I will be recording the whole thing as an audiobook as well!

I’m recording them on my Blue Yeti microphone, in a quiet space, with some dampening foam; I did several years in sound/tech in school for the band department (as well as singing and playing saxophone for them, but those are beside the point) and I’ll be bringing those skills to bear as best I can, alongside years of competitive public speaking (it’s a thing! I won trophies!), over a decade of being a weekly DM, and just generally being a person who doesn’t shut up much.

Each chapter seems like it will be around a half-hour to an hour’s runtime, so my funding goal is mainly going to be set based off of that presumption – again, I’ve got the stuff all in place, but it’s kind of nice to be able to say I’m paying myself some stipend for the hours that I’ll need to spend, as well as of course those I’ve already spent.

To that end and in support of the crowdfunding – and to start maybe drumming up some interest in it – I’m going to post some samples of the work. They’ll be linked in the crowdfund, but I’m going to host them here. If I can.

I don’t know, I’m still figuring everything out. Let’s try, here, though!

Words from my brain, rendered as words from my mouth.

Hot diggity damn, look at that! I can!

It is worth noting that this preview is not the first chapter of the book, as it will be in the audiobook. Rather, this preview is intended to communicate the minimum threshold of quality: what we end up with when all is said and done will be at least this good. I plan on practicing character voices, and compositing the chapters out of multiple takes, for instance – this here was a single read-through, straight, in real-time, with two cut-out misspoken moments. The finished version will also have all of the foreword, dedications, author’s notes, and other goodies, as well as me doing my best to describe a map in words.

We’re gonna say that my ten to fifteen years of DMing should help with that one.

Hope you liked the preview folks, hope it got you interested in the project and the story – please, feel free to share it. In fact – more to come on this later – anyone who shares stuff about this crowdfund project will, once it’s live, be entered into a draw to win rewards!

To that end of sharing, I’m going to put a share button below. I, personally, have faith in your ability to copy and paste a URL from above into wherever you want to share – but, why not have the added utility, eh?

The author's signature, in cursive black. It is scrawled, and more of a vibe than strictly legible.
